Harbinger, Canford Cliffs and Goldikova are true Champions

In the last eight days we have witnessed some terrific horse racing starting on the 24th July with the unbelievable performance of Harbinger (pictured)  in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot. If he continues to improve he will be up there with the “Greats”. Workforce was expected by many to win the race but ran as though he had not recovered from his breathtaking performance in the Epsom Derby. In 1990 his owner, Khalid Abdulla, won the Epsom Derby with Quest for Fame but he too flopped afterwards  and never really showed the same form again. I would be surprised if  Workforce is seen out again this season. Lets hope he is kept in training for next season and not packed off to stud.

Channel 4 covered the five days at Glorious Goodwood the highlight being Canford Cliffs cheeky win in the Sussex Stakes. His trainer, Richard Hannon, has always maintained that Canford Cliffs is the best horse he has ever trained in his long career. Who can doubt him?  His son in law, Richard Hughes, rides the horse to perfection and he too had a record breaking nine winners at Goodwood over the five days.

On Sunday the 1st August ATR covered Goldikova winning the Prix Rothschild at Deauville. What a fabulous racemare. This was her 10th Group 1 victory. I doubt she will ever meet Canford Cliffs over one mile. That would be a race to savour.
