Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock 2010

The Betfred Sprint Cup will be run on Saturday over 6 furlongs at Haydock. This is a Group 1 for 3 year olds and above. This year the race is worth £275,000.00. This race was inaugurally run in 1966 as the Vernons November Sprint Cup, a race over 6 furlongs for competitors of all ages. In 1966 the race was won by Sir Peter O’Sullivans two year old Be Friendly. He went on to win the race again in 1967. The race was fogged off in 1968 when he was well fancied to complete a hat trick of wins. This year Regal Parade (pictured) will be trying to win it for the second year running, but he has to overcome Starspangledbanner from Aidan O’Briens yard in Ireland. It looks a big ask but if the ground comes up on the easy side it will help his cause. Starspangledbanner is usually ridden by Johnny Murtagh but he remains in Ireland to ride Rip Van Winkle in the Tattersalls Millions Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown.
