The 4 day Doncaster St Leger Festival Meeting comes to a climax tomorrow (Saturday) with a terrific card the highlight being the Ladbrokes St Leger Stakes, a Group1, which is the final classic of the Flat season. The race is for three year olds only run over 1 mile 6 furlongs and is worth £500,000.00.
The race would appear to be a clash between the Godolphin and Ballydoyle teams with Godolphin having the worthy favourite in Rewilding. He was an impressive winner of the Great Voltigeur Stakes at York where he beat Ballydoyle’s Midas Touch and Joshua Tree. Midas Touch was giving Rewilding 3lbs that day and Joshua Tree was having his first race of the season. Midas Touch has twice finished behind Rewilding but Ballydoyle obviously feel they can turn the tables over this longer trip. Midas Touch (pictured centre) ran a cracking race in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby when just caught by Cape Blanco. Cape Blanco has gone on to show what a good horse he is, especially with his performance in the Irish Champion Stakes. Midas Touch looks to be the each way bet and he could well grind out a victory over Rewilding. Arctic Cosmos comes from the in form John Gosden yard. He ran an interesting race in the Gordon Stakes at Goodwood when he was a late finishing third to Rebel Soldier and Dandino. He was not knocked about that day and the long finishing straight at Doncaster should be ideal for this big lengthy colt. He could run into a place.
