Cheltenham Gold Cup Day 2011

The fourth day of the Cheltenham Festival comes to a climax with the staying chasers championship, the totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup worth £500,000.00 and run over 3 miles 2 furlongs. Thirteen runners will go to post and include three previous winners of the race namely Kauto Star, Denman and Imperial Commander. It is hard to desert these old favourites but a new star is waiting in the wings, Long Run, who will be ridden by amateur jockey Sam Waley-Cohen for his father Robert Waley-Cohen and trainer Nicky Henderson. Long Run (pictured) is only a six year old but he was mighty impressive when he won the King George VI Chase at Kempton. The last amateur to ride the winner of the Cheltenham Gold Cup was Mr A.J.Wilson back in 1981 on Little Owl.

Pandorama comes over from Ireland and has been given the green light to run by his trainer Noel Meade. Any rain before the race will help his cause.  He could be the eachway value. It promises to be another cracking race.
