Cheltenham World Hurdle Day 2012

The centre piece of the 3rd day of the Cheltenham Festival will be the Ladbrokes World Hurdle run over 3 miles. Big Bucks and Ruby Walsh (pictured) will be attempting to win the race for the fourth time. On Tuesday Quevega joined the short list of horses who have have been successful at four Cheltenham Festivals. The others are Golden Miller, Sir Ken, Arkle, Istabraq and Willie Wumpkins. I hope Big Bucks joins them but Oscar Whisky from the all conquering team of trainer Nicky Henderson and jockey Barry Geraghty will surely make him pull out all the stops. It promises to be a great race.

The first race on the card, the Jewson Novices Chase run over 2 miles 4 furlongs could go to the Irish with Sir des Champs trained by Willie Mullins for Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary who sponsors the Ryanair Chase which is the third race on the card and run over 2 miles 5 furlongs. Riverside Theatre owned by the Jimmy Nesbitt Partnership, trained by Nicky Henderson and to be ridden by Barry Geraghty would be a very popular winner of this race. Somersby, Poquelin and the winner for the last two years, Albertas Run, will not let Riverside Theatre have it all his own way.
