The third and fourth classics for the three year olds take place at Epsom on Friday June 1st and Saturday June 2nd. Both races look as though they could go to the all conquering stable of Aidan O’Brien from Ballydoyle in Ireland. Maybe is favourite for the fillies Investec Oaks worth £350,000.00 and run over 1 mile 4 furlongs on the Friday. Joseph O’Brien has chosen to ride her out of a possible six runners for the Ballydoyle stable.
Camelot is a hot favourite for the colts Investec Derby worth £1,325,000.00 and run over 1 mile 4 furlongs on the Saturday. Joseph O’Brien rode a very confident race on Camelot to win the 2000 Guines at Newmarket. I doubt if he will spreadeagle his field as Sea Bird II (pictured) did back in 1965. He is still the best Derby winner I have seen. I was lucky enough to be at Epsom that day when he strode up the Epsom straight with his head on his chest. Absolutely fabulous sight.
