With the “Jump” season finishing last Saturday it is time to concentrate on the first two of the five classics for the three year olds at Newmarket this weekend. Both races are run over the straight Rowley mile. The 2000 Guineas for the colts will be on the Saturday and in this Aidan O’Brien has the favourite in Camelot (pictured). From the same stable, Power with Ryan Moore on board, appeals as an eachway option. After his win in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot he was promoted to antepost favourite for the 2000 Guineas, but lost that position after defeats in subsequent races. He just failed to get up and beat Parish Hall in the Dewhurst over the course last October.
Aidan O’Brien also has the favourite in the fillies 1000 Guineas which will be run on Sunday with the unbeaten Maybe. She will be ridden, like Camelot, by the trainers’ son Joseph O’Brien. It could be a big weekend for the Ballydoyle team from Ireland.
